Broken Movement Trust Event
Waitangi Family Fun Day
The Waitangi family fun day was first held in 2014 and is on the 6th of February every year. It has changed a little over the years and is now a much bigger event than when it began. Many people now look forward to the event as it has become a much anticipated community event. It is a free community event with lots of fun things to do for everyone. The event is now run to be like a large scale family picnic. You can bring a rug or camping chairs and just enjoy all the day has to offer. In 2020 there was a wonderful local band, face painting, balloon animals, henna painting, stalls to show what Two Rivers Community Trust offer to the area as well as other local stall holders.
Matariki
Our Matariki Event has been running since 2018 and is held in June each year. It is a celebration of the Maori New Year. This event has children from the local schools involved in many aspects of the evening. There are many art works produced to display on the night and the primary schools Kapa Haka groups practice for many weeks to perform on the night. We managed to feed the crowds with a Hangi as well the past 2 years. There are also lots of hands on things to participate with after the performance with flax weaving and lino printing available in the past.
Light Party
Our light party is held on the 31st of October as a non trick or treat alternative to Halloween. Children can dress up in non scary costumes and join in the rollerskating fun. It is again a free event that is broken into two age groups. The young ones earlier and then the older kids later in the evening. There is music and rollerskating. We ask that all those that come along bring a can of food to donate to our foodbank to help support those in our community who are struggling.
